The best way to help your child to be safe when using the internet is to talk to them and make sure they understand a few simple rules which can be found at Parent Resource Sheet for Parents and Carers.
Below you can find links to our Online Safety leaflet, our school rules for responsible ICT use and a large variety of links to some useful websites. Also, we have now added printable guides for keeping your child safe when using smartphones, tablets, X-Box etc.
As part of Peacehaven Heights Academy’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection we fully support the government Prevent Strategy. As part of our annual Safeguarding training, we ensure that members of our team are aware of governmental priorities.
What is the Prevent Strategy?
The Prevent strategy is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. As described in official documents published by Her Majesty’s Government, the Prevent Strategy:
If you are concerned that a member of staff, a Governor or potential Governor may have links to extremism or that child might be at risk of extremism, or if you have any other concern about extremism at Peacehaven Heights Academy, please contact the Department for Education’s helpline on counter.extremism@education.gsi.gov.uk or 020 7340 7264. Parents/carers can also find some more information on the Educate Against Hate website by the DfE
Our school is part of Operation Encompass. Operation Encompass is a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience Domestic Abuse. This is a partnership between schools and the police that helps schools to better support any child where a domestic incident has been reported to police from their home.
Children were recognised as victims of domestic abuse in their own right in the 2021 Domestic Abuse Act.
Operation Encompass means that the police will share information with our school about all police-attended Domestic Abuse incidents which involve any of our children, ideally PRIOR to the start of the next school day.
Following a domestic incident, the Police will make contact with the child’s school via telephone or secure email (usually the next day) and will communicate relevant information to nominated, fully-trained school staff. This will ensure that as a school, we are made aware early enough, to support children and young people in a way that means they feel safe, supported and listened to. It will also provide an opportunity for the school to offer support to the whole family.
As a school we have ensured that our Safeguarding Team has been trained in the Operation Encompass procedures. As a staff we have discussed how we can support our children who are experiencing Domestic Violence and Abuse on a day-to-day basis and particularly following the Operation Encompass notification.?
We are aware that we must do nothing that puts the child/ren or the non-abusing adult at risk.
The Operation Encompass information is stored in line with all other confidential safeguarding and child protection information.
