Our approach to teaching music is designed to provide students with a rich and diverse musical education. Each year group (from EYFS-Year 6) is exposed to various musical genres, eras and cultures, with key genres revisited in later year groups to deepen pupils’ understanding and appreciation. Pupils will engage with music theory, focusing on the 7 key elements of music (tempo, rhythm, dynamics, pitch, texture, timbre, structure), which will enhance their instrumental skills. Opportunities to play instruments will allow pupils to learn songs and compose their own pieces, using their theoretical knowledge to inform their creative choices. This comprehensive approach not only cultivates a love for music but also equips pupils with the skills needed to express themselves musically.
